COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION STRAIGHTEDGE, STEEL (MACHINISTS' AND TOOLMAKERS')
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this commercial item description for all federal agencies.
1. SCOPE
1.1 Scope. This commercial item description (CID) covers a 36 inch long machinists' and toolmakers' straightedge, not graduated, semi-hard, with one edge beveled and one edge square, for general machine shops.
1.2 Intended use. The steel straightedge is intended for use in general shop practice and to lay out lines and check surfaces on ordinary shop jobs.
2. SALIENT CHARACTERISTICS
2.1 Design and construction. All surfaces of the straightedge shall be flat and parallel with the opposite surface. Except for one edge of the straightedge, the ends and working edges of each straightedge shall be squared (90 degrees + 5 minutes) for the full thickness. One edge of the straightedge shall be uniformly beveled and squared for the full width of the land. The straightedge shall be made of corrosive resistant steel. These requirements, and the hardness, shall be as specified in table I when tested as specified in 4.2 and 4.3.
